The pursuit of sustainable development requires humanity to tackle common problems and tensions, as well as to recognize new challenges. Among these tasks, it becomes important to open new opportunities for exchange, cooperation and solidarity, both at the international and regional and local levels.

Unfortunately, in the modern world we are witnessing the growth of cultural and religious intolerance, political confrontation, and military conflicts in different parts of the world. Therefore, the topic of developing cooperation and partnership is important in humanitarian research, including pedagogical science.

Education for Sustainable Development is the practice of exploring ways to achieve global and local sustainable communities. In this article, we refer to the experience of a classical university and a public environmental organization in the eastern region of the Russian Federation – the Republic of Buryatia. Facilitating networking, exchange and interaction among stakeholders in ESD – all of this contributes to improving the quality of education in ESD.
